CCSSO Releases Statement on Kansas Chief

Washington, D.C. (September 11, 2025) – Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Chief Executive Officer Carissa Moffat Miller released the following statement on the announcement of Kansas Education Commissioner Randy Watson’s retirement.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to have worked alongside Commissioner Randy Watson through his service on CCSSO’s Board of Directors and as a voice for the students of Kansas. He’s been a strong advocate for students, leading initiatives that seek educational outcomes for postsecondary success in career and military pathways. He’s been a leading voice in ensuring states can better support students entering the military.”

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, Bureau of Indian Education, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions.
